Highland Concerned Citizens is a grassroots organization of full-time and part-time residents of the Town of Highland, New York. We are working people and retirees, long-time residents and newcomers, and most of all we are neighbors who have serious concerns about the potential impact — environmental, social, and economic — of natural gas exploration in the Marcellus Shale.
We do not believe sufficient independent research has been carried out to determine whether hydro-fracking can be done with adequate safeguards to our air and water. We are working to help educate the public about this issue.
We encourage citizens to participate in the debate and insist that our elected leaders at the local, county, state and national level take action to safeguard our air and water, our livelihoods, our property values, and our quality of life.
